Living In Dresden - History everywhere you turn...

The first traces of settlers in the Dresden area were the 6th century BC Germanic tribes which began a rich and varied history.

If you've wanted to learn more about Dresden or Germany, English Living Abroad has a list of websites that will help you learn about the important phases in Germany's history.

We also have links to several good history books including Dresden : Tuesday, February 13, 1945 which tells the rivoting story of what led to the most destructive bombing of a European city in WWII and it's aftermath.

Day & Weekend Trips - Leipzig
    leipzig

Besides a fascinating medieval and cultural history, Leipzig has the honor of starting the peaceful protests that began the end of the GDR.

Be sure and visit Museum in der Runden Ecke ( Museum in the Round Corner) was once the Stasi headquarters. It is now a sobering exhibition of what life was like behind the Iron Curtain.

Bach & Mendelssohn fans will enjoy touring the homes, museums and church where the highlights of their careers have been preserved. Thomaskirche - St. Thomas's Church is the home of the 800 year old, internationally known St Thomas's Boys Choir, which Bach served as Choirmaster. You can hear the choir sing on Fridays & Saturdays.
